Mentok is a Tibetan name of a wild flower native to this region. The Mentok Kangri Expedition is elevated at an altitude of 20,834 ft above the mean sea level covering 45 km in 14 days. It is set in the Rupsu Valley of eastern Ladakh region. The peak is set above western parts of the famous Tso Moriri Lake. The trek falls into the difficult category owing to its steep ascends and rocky terrain. The Mentok Kangri trek should not be undertaken by beginners and is in no way an adventure for first timers. You should only attempt this trek if you have had previous trekking experience and you want to stretch your trekking capabilities and test your limits.
It is advisable to opt for other treks heighted above 15,000 ft above the mean sea level to gain experience and get acclimatized to the mountains in Ladakh before attempting for Mentok Kangri. The trail to Mentok Kangri is embedded with stunning Rupsu Plateau, isolated valleys, profound canyons, provincial suburbs of Himalayan villages and hypnotizing horizons of Ladakh. Good amount of physical fitness and mental stability are required to complete this trek successfully. The scene from the Mentok Kangri peak gives a bird eye view of the Tso Moriri Lake and pristine mountain ranges of Himalayas disrupting the horizon are the most beautiful way.
